This large Asia-Oceanic Oil and Gas exploration business had recently developed leadership capability and recognised the benefits in investing into their current talent in order to succession plan in the business.

Objectives

People Solutions were approached by this organisation, as a project Sponsor was a previous participant in another Development Centre also run by People Solutions, during this individual’s employment with another Oil & Gas business. From this individual’s experience as a participant at a People Solutions designed and run development centre, they advocated for People Solutions to design and tailor a development centre for this business.

Situation

The client requested that People Solutions design bespoke and tailored activities that were aligned to what a candidate would expect working in an Operations Installation Manager role.

This customer also has specific leadership capabilities that were required to be a successful Operations Installation Manager.

Challenge

To assess the candidates’ match to the Operations Installation Manager role as well as to design a development centre that would clearly highlight areas of development for each candidate in order to help with succession planning.

Solution

People Solutions designed a bespoke development centre for the Operations Installation Manager role. Activities and day plan were designed by using best practice methods and created to assess the leadership capabilities that were required for these roles.

People Solutions designed a process whereby candidates were able to receive valuable feedback and reporting on their performance which was able to be translated into performance and career goals with the business.

For the development centre day, People Solutions facilitated this session, as well as provided some assessor to ensure an objective approach to this process.

Result

The main result from this development centre was that HR and Senior Leadership felt confident in identifying potential talent for the Operations Installation Manager role. Information from the development centre highlighted clear areas of strength and development for each candidate.

Candidates were also provided with feedback on their performance by People Solutions Psychologists. This was seen as a valuable part of the process for candidates.
